SEND & Care Reforms
SEND Reform – Factsheets
The changes made to the Children and Families Act 2014, allowed the Government to reform the way support is given to children and young people with special educational needs in England.
The National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF) alongside Contact a Family created a series of factsheets to help families understand the changes in England:
The Department for Education produced a guide to the new SEN system for parents and carers.
Here is an overview of the main changes that came into effect:
The (EHC) plan will replace the statement of special educational needs, and will cover young people from birth to age 25.
Parents and young people can have control of a personal budget to buy additional support detailed in the plan.
Local authorities must produce a ‘local offer’ of education, health and social care services that are available in the area for children and young people up to 25 years. You can access Rotherham's Local Offer here.
