Home-to-School Transport Survey Update

Dear Members,
Back in September, we launched a Parent Carer Priority Survey in response to concerns raised by our members regarding home-to-school transport. The gathered feedback was compiled into a report and shared with relevant services via the SENDAP Board within the local authority. This was an important step toward ensuring meaningful change.
To continue this work, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) Transport Services would like to ask a few additional questions to help shape improvements. They have also provided the statement below as an update and wish to express their sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the initial survey.
RMBC Acknowledgement of Previous Survey
RMBC Transport Services understands that the start of the academic year is a critical time for families with children who have Special Educational Needs/Disabilities (SEND). The recent survey highlighted that many families experienced uncertainty and stress due to delays or a lack of timely communication regarding home-to-school transport arrangements.
We recognise that this situation may have left parents and carers feeling anxious, frustrated, and unprepared. For children who rely on structured routines, these delays can have a significant impact on their well-being and ability to transition smoothly into the school year. We are therefore committed to reviewing and improving our processes and procedures to improve your experiences.
RMBC Commitment
- Transport Services is committed to improving communication and working collaboratively with families to shape services that meet their needs. We aim to:
- Provide clear and timely updates throughout the allocation process.
- Share accurate information on routes, drivers, and timetables as early as possible.
- Offer transparent guidance on eligibility and application requirements.
- Explore new ways to keep families informed, such as newsletters and digital updates.
