This week, we explain how our Counting the Costs survey is looking into housing costs.

We've produced new template letters for families struggling to get Universal Credit payments backdated, comment on a new NHS investigation, and invite North East families to join us at our latest Better Together event.

Does your home meet your disabled child’s needs?

We want to get an up-to-date picture of the housing issues faced by families with disabled children.

Tell us:

Does your home meet the needs of your disabled child?
Does your home need adaptions to meet your child’s care and support needs?
Have you applied for a Disabled Facilities Grant? Did it cover the cost of the changes to your home?

These are some of the questions on housing in our Counting the Costs survey.

Our Counting the Costs survey is a chance for families across the UK to have your voice heard about the financial impact of having disabled children.

Previous research tells us that four in 10 (41%) families with disabled children have a home that doesn’t meet their child’s needs, and over a quarter (26%) say their home needs adaptations to meet their child’s needs.

We want to know how the situation has changed, and the information we collect will help shape future campaigns and lobby for change.

Come along to our latest Better Together event, our series of fun and engaging activities popular with families with disabled children who might not always have had the opportunity to take part in.

Beamish is a world famous open air museum set on 350 acres of beautiful Durham countryside, where there is something for all the family. Costumed folk bring to life 1820s Pockerley Old Hall and Landscape, 1900s Town, 1900s Pit Village, 1940s Farm, 1950s Town and 1950s Spain’s Field Farm. Try delicious freshly-made bread in the Edwardian Bakery, hop aboard a tram, and discover what life was like during World War One and Two.

You'll be able to explore throughout the day, and at lunch we'll be gathering so you have a chance to meet other families and Contact support staff.
